Machine Maintenance
A Daily, Weekly and Monthly Maintenance Checklist for Oil Expellers
3 min read

An oil expeller works under constant pressure and friction. A few minutes of regular care each day prevents most breakdowns, keeps oil recovery high and extends the life of the machine.
Use this checklist as a starting point and adapt it to your machine and your shift pattern.
Every Day
- Check lubrication. Top up oil in the gearbox and grease the bearings as recommended.
- Listen for changes. Unusual knocking, grinding or vibration is an early warning.
- Watch the oil cake. Cake that is too oily or too dry shows that the press needs adjusting.
- Keep it clean. Remove seed dust and spilled oil from the machine and the floor around it.
- Check the belts. Belts should be tight and free from cracks or glazing.
Every Week
- Inspect the cage bars. Look for wear, gaps or packing that reduces drainage.
- Check the worm shaft. Look for wear on the worm flights that reduces pressure.
- Tighten fasteners. Vibration loosens bolts over time.
- Clean the hopper and feed. A steady, even feed protects the press and keeps output stable.
- Check motor and wiring. Look for heat, loose connections or damaged insulation.
Every Month
- Change gearbox oil if your operating hours call for it.
- Measure wear on key parts such as worms, cage bars and the cone, and plan replacements.
- Check alignment between the motor, pulley and gearbox.
- Review output. Compare oil recovery and throughput with previous months to spot slow decline.
- Test the cake. Send a cake sample for an oil-content test now and then. A well-set full-press expeller typically leaves around 6–12% oil in the cake; a steady rise above your usual figure is an early sign of wear or poor settings.
- Check power use. Units of electricity per tonne of seed creeping up often points to friction, worn parts or a struggling motor.
Keep Spare Parts Ready
The fastest way to lose production is waiting for a part. Keep the common wearing parts in stock: worms, cage bars, bearings, belts and chamber parts. Genuine spare parts fit correctly and wear evenly with the rest of the machine.
Keep a Simple Log
Write down what was checked, what was changed and when. A log makes it easy to see patterns, plan replacements before failure and train new operators.
We Are Here to Help
Varsha supplies genuine spare parts for every expeller we make, along with technical guidance and after-sales support. If something does not look or sound right, share a photo or video with our team and we will help you find the cause.
Figures in this guide are typical ranges drawn from agricultural research and extension guidance. Actual results vary with seed variety, preparation and machine settings.
